What I loved about this movie was both woman were searching for a passion, both woman loved to cook, both woman 'found themselves' through cooking and sharing with others, became famous writers and were televised because of this discovered passion and as a result found there happiness....just like me (well....without the book, television show and fame lol!)
Just 3 years ago I was a work-a-holic fashion designer that lived on 'healthy' fast food, lean cuisine microwave meals, El Pollo Loco, Coffee Bean, Protein Shakes, Rotisserie Chicken, pre-bagged salads and Galeo's Miso Ceaser (the ONLY really healthy item in my entire diet!) Protein bars, and when I did cook it would always be a piece of low grade steak fried with mushrooms and a TON of seasoning salt and ketchup.. I drank gallons of crystal light lemonade a day having no clue how terrible Splenda would turn out to be...I mean, it was "light' so it was supposed to make me skinny! I lived routinely EVERY day with the all morning “desperately needed” caffeine supply followed by the big salty "low carb" lunch which then lead to the 3 pm energy crash that could ONLY be fixed with a bag of M&M's, right back to the need for another coffee or a diet coke just to get enough energy to make it to the end of the day. I would drag myself to the gym, complete a half ass 45 min workout of cardio and weights and then home to my microwave or out on a date to some expensive restaurant that was loaded with 'flavor'. I really believed I was eating healthy!!! Everything was light and low carb, it HAD to be healthy....so why was I not ultra fit!? I went to the gym 5 days a week! Why was I always bloated and tired and every time I woke up I felt like I had aged! I was always soooo frustrated! Well, what do you know....it's not that my body was 'screwed up and broken" like I thought. I don't have a Thyroid issue and it's actually not genetic. I was just eating like crap and my body didn't know what to do with 80% of the caca I was consuming!! Anyways, you get the point and perhaps many of you relate to this. Maybe even thinking.....there isn't anything wrong with that diet, that's how I eat! Honey....this is TERRIBLE. I only know this now because of my program in holistic health and now my passion and evolving knowledge for this whole new world.
My days now consist of a career that I love (which makes ALL the difference in the world - life is so unfulfilling without passion), green smoothies, probiotics (which are a miracle remedy btw), vegetarian lunches and snack, a lot of raw vegetables and fruit, avocadoes, digestive enzyme supplements, quinoa, fish, free range eggs, homemade almond milk, flax seeds and natural seasonings.
Last night for the first time I cooked with Millet (Birdseed actually lol! It’s a nutritious Alkaline grain high in protein and fiber), Organic coconut oil (which smells delicious) and Organic Amaranth flour ( a gluten free flour originally from South America. It is 100% stone ground and is especially high in lysine which is lacking in many grains.)
Experimenting is how I am learning and I guess like Julia and Julie I hope to only get better in the kitchen, more knowledgeable and more capable of sharing what I know with others that would love to learn....I'm the modern day Natural and Organic Julia Child's ; )
I feel and look a million times better today than I did 3 years ago. I've come full circle by deciding to make huge life transitions in career and health that seem like old habits now and I am so happy : )
Thanks for sharing this experience with me,
Health and Happiness,
Christine
